Baku:The Global South Youth Platform (GYSP), initiated by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG), has successfully expanded its representation to 40 countries, according to an announcement made by BIG.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, the GYSP was launched to unite active young individuals from these countries into a cohesive network aimed at contributing to global justice. Established in May this year, the platform promotes peace, solidarity, and decolonization, while also aiming to enhance the involvement of the Global South's youth in international decision-making processes.
The platform includes young participants from regions such as Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, with specific representation from territories including New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Guadeloupe, Réunion, French Guiana, Bonaire, and Corsica. Members hail from diverse sectors such as international organizations, government bodies, academia, media, the legal field, and civil society. GYSP primarily addresses issues like decolonization, human rights, social and economic inequality, and local community rights.
The platform has already organized two international events. The first, "Colonial Injustice and Housing Shortage," took place in Baku during the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), focusing on colonial heritage's impact on housing, land relations, and urban development. Another event, "Global South Youth Platform The Role of Youth in Decolonizing Urbanization," was held on May 20, 2026, discussing youth roles in urban development, local community rights, and future cooperation opportunities among members.
The Global South Youth Platform seeks to foster experience exchange, promote joint international initiatives, and encourage active youth participation in global dialogues, striving to amplify the Global South's voice on international platforms.
