Sumgayit Holds Tree-Planting Campaign to Commemorate Victory Day

Sumgayit:In a significant environmental initiative, Sumgayit has organized a large-scale tree-planting campaign to mark Victory Day on November 8. This event, held in the Sumgayit Boulevard area, was attended by prominent figures including Zakir Farajov, Head of the Sumgayit City Executive Power, alongside heads of law enforcement agencies, departments, enterprises, organizations, and members of the public such as martyrs' families and war veterans.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, the campaign involved planting 2,250 olive trees in the boulevard area. Agrotechnical care was provided for the newly planted trees, which included loosening the soil around their bases, watering, and carrying out other necessary maintenance work.

The campaign holds special symbolic significance, being dedicated to the anniversary of the historic victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War. Each tree planted is seen as a tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives, representing respect for their memory, love for the native land, peace, and faith in the future.

In conjunction with the tree-planting, a campaign named "Exchange Waste for Seedlings" was also conducted in the Sumgayit Boulevard area. This initiative was organized jointly by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Sumgayit City Executive Power. It encouraged citizens to exchange plastic and glass waste, as well as used batteries, for various tree seedlings. The campaign aimed to promote waste sorting and recycling, raise environmental awareness, protect the environment, and enhance public support for expanding green spaces.

Recent years have seen consistent ecological preservation efforts in Sumgayit, focusing on expanding green areas and improving the city's aesthetic appeal. Special attention has been given to greening the Sumgayit Boulevard along the Caspian Sea coast by planting new trees and ornamental plants and maintaining existing green spaces. These measures significantly contribute to improving Sumgayit's ecological environment, creating better recreational conditions for residents, and developing the city as a modern, green urban area.
