Halal Industry Emerges as Key Economic Opportunity for Islamic World

Baku: The halal industry is increasingly being recognized as a significant economic opportunity for the Islamic world, as highlighted by Amira Elfadil, Advisor to the Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO). Elfadil delivered her remarks at the Halal Economy Leaders Forum, a key event held during the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group Annual Meetings in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press news agency, ICESCO, which comprises 54 member states, is committed to creating new opportunities for young people and women, emphasizing their empowerment through its core areas of education, culture, and science. Elfadil stressed the importance of enabling youth and women to play a greater role in the halal industry.

In her address, Elfadil highlighted ICESCO's increased focus on the halal industry over the past four years, acknowledging the science and technology sector's leading role within the organization. She expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan for hosting the event and underscored the industry's connection to both economic and cultural values.

Elfadil also mentioned potential collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), revealing plans to sign a memorandum of understanding between the two organizations. This partnership aims to enhance capacities and promote development within the halal industry.

She further noted ICESCO's efforts since 2022 in conducting seminars, training programs, and awareness-raising activities related to the halal industry across its member states. Through collaboration with governments, the private sector, and non-governmental organizations, ICESCO seeks to significantly contribute to the industry's development.
