Baku: Harutyunyan has publicly denied allegations circulating in the Armenian media that the accused individuals were subjected to psychological pressure and given psychotropic drugs during their detention.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the denials come amid the ongoing court proceedings that began on February 6, involving citizens of the Republic of Armenia. These individuals are accused of committing serious crimes against peace and humanity, including planning and conducting aggressive war, genocide, and various other crimes. Among the accused are notable figures such as Araik Harutyunyan, Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, and others, including Ruben Vardanyan.

Harutyunyan addressed the allegations directly, emphasizing the access to information and the ability to express objections while in detention. He mentioned that their detention conditions are frequently discussed in the Armenian media and that the Prime Minister of Armenia had made statements about psychological pressure and drug use. Harutyunyan reassured that legal standards were being followed, with regular visits from the International Committee of the Red Cross and open communication with families. He asserted that no pressure was applied, and all legal rights were ensured during investigations.

Following Harutyunyan’s statement, Davit Babayan, another defendant, also addressed the court. He affirmed that the detention conditions were satisfactory and that the accused were treated respectfully. Babayan emphasized that they had not faced any pressure and highlighted the importance of courage and truth, indicating that the detention conditions were favorable.
