Head of Baku Hovsan International Trade Port and Customs Official Arrested on Smuggling Charges

Baku: The head of the Baku Hovsan International Trade Port, Rashad Dashdamirov, and Farid Usubov, a senior Customs Committee official, have been arrested on charges of smuggling and related offenses. By the court’s decision, a pre-trial detention measure of 2 months and 20 days has been chosen for Farid Usubov, who has been charged under Articles 206.4, 213-1.2.2, 213-1.2.3, and 308.2 of the Criminal Code.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, a total of six individuals, including a senior official from the State Customs Committee, are accused of smuggling and abuse of official powers. The Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office detained Farid Usubov, who is the head of the Port Post of the Main Customs Department for Maritime Transport and Energy Resources of the State Customs Committee.

The Press Service of the Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed to APA that Farid Usubov was detained within the framework of a criminal case initiated by the Anti-Corruption Department. Pre-trial detention measures have been chosen for Usubov and several others as investigative actions continue. Additional information will be released to the public as it becomes available.
