Heydar Aliyev Center Hosts Premier of “Taghiyev: School” Film, Produced by Baku Media Center

Baku: On May 1, the Heydar Aliyev Center hosted the premier of the feature film "Taghiyev: School," produced by the Baku Media Center.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the presentation ceremony was attended by Arzu Aliyeva, Head of the Baku Media Center, Alena Aliyeva, government officials, cultural figures, as well as other guests. Speaking prior to the screening, Ayaz Salayev, a film critic, director, and Honored Artist, emphasized the film's significance in bridging gaps in national memory and fortifying spiritual values.

The feature film 'Taghiyev: School' is the fourth installment of a multi-part series titled 'Taghiyev,' dedicated to the life of the philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev. The film highlights significant historical events in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It portrays the journey to open the first secular school for girls in the Muslim East in Baku on October 7, 1901, initiated by Taghiyev, and the hardships he faced.

Following the screening, director Zaur Gasimli and members of the creative team shared their reflections on the idea and filming process, expressing deep appreciation to the Baku Media Center and Arzu Aliyeva for their pivotal role. The project's success was attributed to the team's seamless harmony, expertise, and creative approach.

The "Taghiyev" film series, including previous installments "Taghiyev: Oil," "Taghiyev: Tsar," and "Taghiyev: Sona," has collectively achieved significant viewership, with 200,000 viewers across the country. Due to public interest, these films continue to be screened in cinemas.

The film 'Taghiyev: School' has been submitted by Azerbaijan as the official candidate for the 'Best International Feature Film' category at the 98th Academy Awards. The presentation was held in Los Angeles, highlighting its significance in Azerbaijani cinema history. The production involved nearly 2,500 creative professionals, 76 filming locations, and over 300 sets, with a dedicated costume workshop for period-accurate outfits.

The film features a talented cast, including People's Artists and Honored Artists from Azerbaijan, as well as professional actors from Russia and Belarus in key historical roles. The project was supported by the Baku Media Center, Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Ministry of Culture, Cinema Agency, NEQSOL Holding, Kapital Bank, Bakcell, and Norm companies.
