Abu dhabi: A high-level dialogue titled "Climate-Resilient Cities and Communities along the Caspian Sea - Unlocking Vertical Climate Finance for Urban Adaptation" convened on May 19 during the 13th Session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13). The event was attended by prominent government officials, United Nations representatives, and international financial institutions, alongside development partners.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the dialogue focused on the role of climate finance, partnerships, and innovations in supporting scalable and human-centered urban adaptation. Agakerim Samadzade, the First Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources, addressed the opening ceremony, highlighting the increasing challenges posed by climate change, including rising temperatures and diminishing water resources.

Samadzade emphasized the critical issue of the declining water level of the Caspian Sea, which has become a significant concern impacting millions. The decline affects various sectors, from the fishing industry to coastal communities' livelihoods, tourism, and the broader ecosystem.

The dialogue continued with discussions led by Mahir Aliyev, Regional Coordinator of the UN Environment Programme, exploring potential solutions and collaborations to address these pressing issues.
