Baku: The first phase of filming for the second season of the "Horses and Humans" documentary series, produced by National Geographic, has been completed in Azerbaijan. The filming took place in various locations including Baku, Shamakhi, Gobustan, and Aghjabadi.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the series, directed by Ignacio S¡nchez Sorondo, delves into the ancient equestrian traditions of different cultures. While the first season was filmed in eight countries-Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, India, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Mongolia-the second season will feature Azerbaijan alongside Spain, Colombia, and the United States. The next phase of filming is set to commence in August-September this year.
The Azerbaijan-filmed episode will spotlight the nation's rich equestrian heritage, focusing particularly on the renowned Garabagh horses. It also aims to shed light on Chovken, a traditional horseback game considered a precursor to modern polo.
The production team intends to release the second season on the Netflix platform. The filming in Azerbaijan was initiated by the Azerbaijani Embassy in Argentina, sponsored by the International Chovken Federation, and received support from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Culture, the Azerbaijan Cinema Agency (ARKA) under the Ministry of Culture, the Jafar Jabbarli Azerbaijanfilm Studio, the Garabagh Horse Breeding Farm, and the Shamakhi District Executive Authority.
