Baku: There are 2.2 million fixed broadband internet subscribers in Azerbaijan, of which 1.7 million, or 78%, use GPON technology, the Chairman of the Board of the Information and Communication Technologies Agency (ICTA), Nail Mardanov, said during a meeting with several internet telecommunications service providers and operators at ICTA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Mardanov highlighted that out of the existing 2.2 million connections, approximately 100,000 are provided through ADSL, and 400,000 via Ethernet (ETTH) and fixed wireless access (FWA) technologies.
He emphasized the need for operators using outdated technologies to take necessary steps to technologically upgrade their networks to offer modern and competitive services. This call to action aims at ensuring that the nation’s internet infrastructure keeps pace with global standards and meets the growing demands of consumers.
