VI Plenary Meeting of GlobE Network Concludes in Baku

Baku: The Sixth Plenary Session of the United Nations Global Operations Network (GlobE Network) Against Corruption has concluded in Baku. The event focused on enhancing international cooperation in combating corruption and exploring new approaches in this domain.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the session saw participation from over 120 representatives from state institutions across 92 countries. The agenda included more than 20 panel discussions and over 100 speeches. The event also facilitated more than 100 bilateral meetings, allowing participants to discuss proposals and perspectives aimed at fostering cooperation and experience exchange.

Presentations by UNODC representatives highlighted the procedures for establishing Regional Offices of the GlobE Network. A significant panel discussion addressed the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption, with representatives from Kuwait and UNODC underscoring the network’s potential.

Innovative, non-criminal solutions for investigating corruption crimes were a major topic of discussion, with insights provided by representatives from South Africa, Brazil, Thailand, and Vietnam. Another panel focused on public awareness and preventive measures, featuring contributions from Russia, China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Haiti, Pakistan, and Nepal.

The recovery of assets and exchange of international experiences were also key themes, with presentations from representatives of Brazil, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Uganda, and Fuad Aliyev from Azerbaijan’s Egmont Group.

During the closing ceremony, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prosecutor General, Nazim Rajabov, stressed the importance of the GlobE Network for enhancing international cooperation against corruption. He affirmed Azerbaijan’s commitment to active participation in this platform. His colleague, Heydar Mammadov, emphasized Azerbaijan’s determination and progress in global anti-corruption efforts, announcing that Baku will host a high-level meeting of law enforcement agencies from OIC member states in 2026.

The event concluded with speeches from Nasser Abaalkhail, Chairman of the GlobE Network’s Management Committee, Boni de Moraes Soares, Vice-Chairman, and Rozitsa Zaharieva, the network’s Coordinator, all expressing gratitude to participants and a commitment to continuing the fight against corruption.
