Baku: Iliana Iotova, Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria, addressed the Leaders' Session at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku, emphasizing the urgent need for action on urban migration and climate change. She highlighted that the "Baku Call to Action" should be remembered not for its speeches, but for the tangible outcomes it produces, particularly in housing development.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Iotova stressed the impact of climate change as a significant driver of migration, pointing out that if current trends continue, people worldwide may be forced to migrate to secure their fundamental right to live. Furthermore, she noted that cities, often the first refuge for those displaced by conflict or environmental changes, must be prepared to integrate these new residents effectively. Iotova advocated for a shift in perspective on migration, viewing it not as a threat but as a reality that requires readiness and adaptability from urban centers.

Iotova also addressed the broader challenges posed by climate change, which displaces entire regions due to drought, water scarcity, and rising sea levels.
