Aghdam: The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex was officially inaugurated on May 10, coinciding with the 102nd anniversary of the birth of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The event was graced by the presence of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the complex is a significant part of the second phase of the Barda-Aghdam Railway Line project. Spanning nearly 8 hectares, the facility is equipped with a wide array of amenities, including waiting halls, ticket offices, a library, shops, entertainment areas, a restaurant, and relaxation zones. The complex ensures passenger access to both train platforms and bus stops, enhancing the overall travel experience.
The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex features various service buildings and a passenger platform. Notably, it boasts the first covered railway platform in Azerbaijan, extending 350 meters. The complex also includes above-ground parking for various vehicle sizes, platforms for intercity and intraregional bus routes, bicycle parking, a park, and electric charging stations for electric vehicles. This facility is designed to transport 800-1000 train passengers and serve 1300-1500 bus passengers daily, functioning as an integrated transportation hub.
The opening ceremony was marked by the departure of the first symbolic passenger train on the Barda-Aghdam railway line. The foundation of this strategic infrastructure project was laid on October 4, 2022, with President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva in attendance.
The Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex is expected to significantly improve public transportation access in the Karabakh economic region. It will contribute to the socio-economic revival of Aghdam District, expand Azerbaijan’s transportation capacity, and play a crucial role in the ‘Great Return’ process. The Barda-Aghdam and Horadiz-Agbend railway projects are anticipated to positively impact the liberated territories of Azerbaijan by facilitating faster and more cost-effective transportation of passengers and goods, thereby boosting the region’s logistical potential.
Located at the crossroads of the East-West and North-South transportation corridors, the region is emerging as a strategic hub for freight aggregation, sorting, and distribution. Infrastructure projects like the Aghdam Railway and Bus Terminal Complex and logistics centers are expected to stimulate local production and foster international trade, establishing the complex as a pivotal transport exchange center for the Karabakh region.
