Indian Embassy Celebrates India’s 80th Independence Day in Baku

Baku: The Embassy of India in Azerbaijan celebrated India's 80th Independence Day in Baku on August 15, bringing together members of the Indian diaspora and Azerbaijani citizens, APA reports, citing the embassy. The celebrations commenced with a rendition of India's national song, 'Vande Mataram,' followed by the hoisting of the national flag by Indian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Abhay Kumar. Participants joined in singing India's national anthem, 'Jana Gana Mana.'

According to Azeri-Press news agency, Ambassador Kumar addressed the gathering, paying tribute to those who fought for India's independence and reflecting on the country's development over the past eight decades. He noted India's transformation from a newly independent nation facing significant challenges to becoming one of the world's major economies, the largest democracy, and a prominent voice of the Global South.

The ambassador highlighted India's achievements in science and technology, including its space program and Chandrayaan missions. He also discussed progress in digital public infrastructure, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and renewable energy. Kumar referred to India's vision of 'Viksit Bharat,' aimed at building a prosperous, modern, inclusive, and self-confident nation.

Speaking on India's international engagement, the ambassador emphasized the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam'-'the world is one family'-and a commitment to cooperation for peace, prosperity, and sustainable development. During the ceremony, Kumar read out the message of the President of India on the occasion of Independence Day.

Certificates were awarded to winners of the Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz and participants in virtual workshops supported by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on traditional Indian art forms, including Madhubani, Warli, Gond, and Phad painting. The event concluded with Indian snacks and patriotic songs.

The embassy stated that the celebration highlighted India's journey over the past eight decades and reaffirmed its commitment to building a prosperous, inclusive, and innovative future.
