The Hague – The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has made a significant ruling, rejecting seven out of ten requests filed by Armenia against Azerbaijan. In its decision dated November 17, 2023, the Court reinforced Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over the Garabagh region, APA reports. The ICJ dismissed Armenia’s request for the withdrawal of Azerbaijani military and law enforcement personnel from Garabagh. The Court recognized Azerbaijan’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Garabagh, irrespective of their national or ethnic origin. It also noted the Azerbaijani government’s openness and cooperation with international agencies, including the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in the Garabagh region.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Additionally, the Court did not uphold Armenia’s claims related to cultural sites and artifacts in Azerbaijan. The ICJ also rejected Armenia’s request concerning Azerbaijan’s investigative actions against individuals associated with the illegal separatist regime in Garabagh. Furthermore, the Court did not confirm any violation by Azerbaijan of its obligations under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD), dismissing this claim by Armenia as well.
