Tehran: Iran seeks to resolve uncertain issues raised by the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding Iran’s nuclear facilities, the spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Esmaeil Baghaei, said at a press conference in Tehran.

According to Trend News Agency, the visit of Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, to Tehran is expected in connection with the resolution of unclear issues. The exact time of this visit has not been determined yet. Baghaei stated that during the visit, discussions will be held on resolving these uncertain issues.

Meanwhile, in January 2016, Iran and the P5+1 group-which includes the US, Russia, China, the UK, France, and Germany-implemented the Comprehensive Joint Plan of Action concerning Iran’s nuclear program. However, in May 2018, the US announced its withdrawal from the deal and reimposed sanctions on Iran.

By the end of 2020, the Iranian parliament decided to pursue a strategic plan in the nuclear sector to counter the sanction
s, leading to a suspension of additional steps and the Additional Protocol as per the nuclear agreement. Consequently, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) faced a reduction in monitoring capabilities by 20-30 percent.

To note, Iran and the IAEA reached an agreement last March (2023) and stated on the agreement that Iran’s cooperation with the IAEA is within the framework of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Convention (NPT) and safeguards. The parties are to cooperate with each other on allegations of the existence of enriched uranium substances in connection with Iran’s nuclear program.
