TEHRAN – The candidacy of Abbas Araghchi for the position of Iranian Foreign Minister has been approved by the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament.

According to Trend News Agency, the committee’s approval is a preliminary step before a full parliamentary vote. If confirmed by the members of the Iranian parliament, Araghchi will serve as the foreign minister in the current government led by newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian, who presented his cabinet nominations on August 11.
