Baku: Iran's actions were not targeted at the region's neighboring or friendly states, according to Mojtaba Demirchilou, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan. During a press conference held at the Iranian Embassy in Baku, he emphasized that from the very outset of the military attack, Iran has taken appropriate measures using its legitimate right to self-defense.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the ambassador clarified that Iran's attacks on enemy military bases in the region were in self-defense and not aimed at neighboring or friendly countries. He explained that these actions were solely a response to the measures taken by aggressor countries against Iran.
The diplomat underscored Iran's readiness to take legal measures at the international level, utilizing all available mechanisms, including convening an emergency session of the UN Security Council. He noted that immediately following the incident, Iran proposed this emergency session.
Furthermore, Iran's Foreign Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, addressed an official letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Chair of the Security Council. The letter called for necessary measures to condemn and halt the military aggression against Iran.
The ambassador highlighted that the attack on Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities constitutes a clear violation of international law. Consequently, a protest was lodged with the International Atomic Energy Agency, and a meeting of the Board of Governors was demanded. Efforts are being coordinated with the international community and relevant organizations to halt the aggression and prevent any further escalation of tensions.
