IsDB Collaborates on $430 Million Project in Azerbaijan

Baku: Cooperation between the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group and Azerbaijan has expanded since the liberation of Karabakh, President of the IsDB Group Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser said while speaking about cooperation between Azerbaijan and the group at an event held as part of the IsDB Group Annual Meetings in Baku, APA reports. He noted that cooperation between the Islamic Development Bank and Azerbaijan has continued for many years and that various projects have been implemented during this period.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, since the beginning of their relations, the IsDB and Azerbaijan have engaged in projects worth over $1.3 billion. The pace of collaboration is now accelerating, particularly following the liberation of Karabakh. Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser highlighted his visits to the region to observe the reconstruction and restoration efforts in Karabakh.

The progress in the region is notable, and one of the initial projects financed involved water and irrigation system improvements. The IsDB is currently working on a major project exceeding $430 million, which focuses on rehabilitating canals and preventing water losses. The bank is also exploring potential projects in other vital infrastructure sectors in Azerbaijan.

Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser expressed the bank's interest in supporting projects related to highways, transport infrastructure, and railways. The IsDB is prepared to back the transformative projects planned by the Azerbaijani government in the near future. He emphasized the pride the Islamic Development Bank takes in being a reliable partner for the President and Government of Azerbaijan, aiming to bring added value and expertise to these initiatives.
