Baku: 'The Zangezur Corridor is of particular importance as a new route of the Middle Corridor,' Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov stated at a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Trkiye Hakan Fidan in Baku, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Minister detailed the advancements in infrastructure projects related to the corridor. He mentioned that 95% of the highway construction towards the Armenian border in Azerbaijan and 75% of the railway project have been completed. Both projects are anticipated to reach completion by 2027.
Jeyhun Bayramov also noted the commencement of railway reconstruction work in Nakhchivan. A 42-kilometer section of the Trkiye-Nakhchivan railway traverses Armenian territory, forming part of the Zangezur Corridor. Negotiations involving the US and Armenia are ongoing concerning this section. Despite its location within Armenian borders, the entry and exit will be managed from Azerbaijan. The design work for this segment is set to conclude this year, with physical construction slated to start in 2027.
The completion of this project is crucial for establishing connectivity from Europe through Trkiye and Azerbaijan. Bayramov emphasized the importance of finalizing the corridor to facilitate this strategic link.
