Brussels: NATO member states are interested in increasing defense spending. Spain, Luxembourg, as well as a number of other states, want to achieve a 2 percent increase in defense spending by the end of the year, Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission said at a briefing, APA reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kallas also commented on the views on increasing support for Ukraine by 5 percent. She noted that the numbers and the capabilities of the alliance are different concepts. She emphasized that the defense of Ukraine and the organization of the defense of the North Atlantic Alliance are the same concepts. The final decision on the 5 percent increase will be made by NATO.

K. Kallas, referring to reports of Russia’s targeting of civilians, stated that this is aimed at causing more damage to Ukraine. She highlighted that organizing regular attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure is contrary to international humanitarian law, and noted that Russia engages in such actions regularly.
