Kazakh and Kyrgyz Ministers Discuss Steps to Enhance Agricultural Cooperation


ALMATY: Specific steps to boost Kazakhstan’s investment in Kyrgyzstan’s agricultural sector were outlined in a recent meeting, focusing on enhancing bilateral collaboration in this vital area.

According to Trend News Agency, the discussion took place between Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Agriculture, Bakyt Torobayev, and Kazakhstan’s Minister of Agriculture, Aidarbek Saparov. The meeting highlighted the commitment of both nations to strengthen their partnership in agriculture. Torobayev emphasized the potential for collaboration in agricultural product processing, developing logistics chains, and implementing modern technologies, which are key areas for development.

Saparov responded positively, affirming Kazakhstan’s readiness to advance cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in the agricultural sector. He stressed the importance of sharing experiences and investing in joint projects that could benefit both countries. The ministers’ dialogue underscores a mutual interest in
leveraging agriculture for economic growth and stability in the region.

The meeting also addressed the recent trade statistics, revealing a decline in trade turnover between the two countries. The State Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan reported that trade turnover amounted to $637.207 million from January through July 2024, marking an 18.6 percent decrease from the $782.652 million recorded during the same period in 2023. This decline highlights the need for renewed focus on collaborative projects and investments that could invigorate trade relations.
