Kazakhstan Advocates for Intergovernmental Agreement on Middle Corridor

Tbilisi: Kazakhstan has put forward a proposal for signing an intergovernmental agreement concerning the Middle Corridor, emphasizing the necessity for a legal and institutional foundation. Kazakh Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev highlighted this point during his speech at the panel titled “Middle Corridor: From Reliability to Efficiency,” part of the V Tbilisi Silk Way Forum.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the lack of an intergovernmental agreement is a significant gap for the Middle Corridor, which currently operates without a formalized legal framework. Sauranbayev noted the importance of having such an agreement to address the concerns of cargo shippers who seek guaranteed tariffs and infrastructure investors who need assurance on cargo flows.

He emphasized that resolving these issues requires an intergovernmental agreement, calling for participating countries to collaboratively draft a document. Kazakhstan is keen on advancing the development of the Middle Corridor and is prepared to commit resources towards this goal.
