Kazakhstan-Kazakhstan’s state oil company:azakhstan’s state oil company, KazMunayGas JSC (KMG), is actively exploring the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to support the future of eco-friendly air transport, according to Trend News Agency. The initiative was highlighted following a strategic meeting between KMG’s Chairman of the Board, Askhat Kassenov, and Rafael Schwartzman, the Vice President of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to Trend News Agency, the discussions between Kassenov and Schwartzman focused on the critical role of SAF in the evolution of the aviation industry. KMG has undertaken a detailed market analysis which confirms that the sector’s growth is increasingly tied to the use of sustainable fuels. This move is part of a broader commitment by Kazakhstan to participate in global efforts to mitigate carbon emissions through the CORSIA framework, which aims to offset and reduce emissions in international aviation.
Kassenov also pointed out that since 20
20, three of Kazakhstan’s oil refineries have been equipped to produce the conventional Jet A-1 aviation fuel. However, transitioning to SAF will necessitate extensive modernization of the nation’s infrastructure, ranging from oil depots to airport facilities.
The pursuit of sustainable fuel options also coincided with a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Transport Minister Maksat Kaliakparov, Saltanat Tompiyeva, Chair of the Civil Aviation Committee of Kazakhstan, and the IATA representative. They discussed the national aviation sector’s transition to Jet A-1 fuel, underscoring the country’s strategic shift towards more sustainable aviation solutions.
