Baku: French defender Ibrahima Konat© addressed journalists’ questions at a press conference ahead of the World Cup qualifying match against Azerbaijan, highlighting the challenges faced by his team in previous encounters.
According to Azeri-Press news agency, Konat© expressed uncertainty about whether he would captain the team in the upcoming match. He emphasized that the decision lies with the head coach, and the main focus should be on enjoying the game and representing France diligently, with the objective of securing points from their opponents.
The discussion also touched on the possibility of the second-choice goalkeeper taking the field for France. Konat© stated that such decisions are made by the head coach, expressing confidence in the goalkeeper’s abilities and hoping for his debut representation of the French national team.
Reflecting on past encounters, Konat© acknowledged that the French team had underestimated Azerbaijan in their previous match in Paris. Despite the challenges, he stressed the importance of enjoying the game regardless of the outcome and fulfilling their responsibilities to the French fans.
Konat© also commented on the Azerbaijani club Qarabag’s notable performance, particularly as many players from the national team represent the club. He admitted that Azerbaijan surprised them with their qualities despite a 0-3 loss and anticipated a competitive match in Baku, while reaffirming France’s commitment to earning points in the qualification round.
