BISHKEK – In a move to curb the involvement of its citizens in foreign hostilities, the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) has issued a stern warning against participation in armed conflicts abroad, specifically noting the current situation in Palestine.
According to 24.kg News Agency, there has been a notable rise in social media activity, including posts and comments by individuals advocating for Kyrgyzstanis to engage in jihad in Palestine. These online provocations have emerged against the backdrop of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli armed conflict. The SCNS has made it clear that any intention or action towards participating in such conflicts or undergoing terrorist training is subject to criminal prosecution.
Kyrgyzstan law under Article 256 of the Criminal Code imposes imprisonment for five to ten years with property confiscation for those found guilty of participating in foreign armed conflicts. Additionally, Article 416 prescribes imprisonment for seven to ten years for those inducing others to participate.
This announcement comes as the conflict intensifies, highlighted by a rocket attack launched by Hamas from the Gaza Strip on the south of Israel on October 7. Reports indicate that the number of victims in the conflict has risen to 9,000, predominantly Palestinian women and children.
The SCNS’s warning is part of an effort to ensure that Kyrgyzstanis understand the legal ramifications of engaging in or promoting participation in such activities.
