BISHKEK – During the 10th summit of the Heads of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) in Astana, Kazakhstan, President Sadyr Japarov affirmed Kyrgyzstan’s readiness to host the next summit of Turkic states in 2024 and expressed aspirations for the OTS to evolve into a significant regional entity.
According to 24.kg News Agency, the summit in Astana convened amid a time of global crises, underscoring the necessity for collective action to navigate these challenges. He emphasized the importance of the strategic documents, “Vision of the Turkic World 2040” and the five-year “Strategy of the Organization of Turkic States,” in fostering cooperation among the member countries. Japarov noted that the Astana Act and the summit’s final Declaration cover essential cooperation areas and committed Kyrgyzstan to contributing to the implementation of these tasks.
Highlighting the summit’s theme, TURKTIME, Japarov outlined Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the development of the OTS, noting that the organization’s goals align with Kyrgyzstan’s economic policies. He underscored the importance of collaborative efforts to enhance economic potential and achieve sustainable development across Turkic nations.
The President advocated for the establishment of a Turkic Investment Fund, which he believes is crucial in the current economic climate to support business needs and project implementations. Japarov also proposed the organization of a Digital Forum by the OTS member states in Kyrgyzstan in 2024, emphasizing the role of digital transformation and Kyrgyzstan’s own initiatives in this sector.
Furthermore, Japarov called for the establishment of a working group to develop a concept for lower postal exchange rates among the OTS member states. He urged the creation of favorable conditions for connecting manufacturers and entrepreneurs from Turkic countries and suggested enhancing the collaboration between the Turkic cooperation organizations, such as TURKSOY, the Turkic Academy, and the Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. Additionally, he advocated for intensified development of the tourism industry within the Turkic world.
In an ambitious proposal, Japarov suggested designating the city of Jalal-Abad as the tourist capital of the Turkic world for 2025, leveraging its historical significance as part of the Great Silk Road.
President Japarov concluded his remarks by emphasizing Kyrgyzstan’s eagerness to facilitate the next summit and to contribute to the development, cooperation, and fraternal relations among the Turkic states.
