Asman: In an ambitious move toward environmental sustainability, the future city of Asman in Kyrgyzstan will enforce a complete ban on gasoline, diesel, and gas-powered vehicles. This initiative is part of the government’s plan to establish Asman as a pilot project for ecologically clean urban development.

According to Trend News Agency, the initiative is aligned with President Sadyr Japarov’s decree “On the main directions of the concept of construction of the pilot project ‘Ecologically clean city of Asman’ on the territory of Issyk-Kul region”. The presidential order has tasked the Cabinet of Ministers with developing and approving a comprehensive concept for the city by March 1, 2025. The outlined concept includes several strategic focuses aimed at reducing the city’s environmental footprint significantly.

Key components of the concept involve the development of electric transport and the creation of a supporting charging infrastructure. It also includes a complete prohibition on the use of hydrocarbon-
based vehicles such as those powered by gasoline, diesel, or gas, promoting instead the exclusive use of electric vehicles including cars and buses. Additional measures include encouraging the use of bicycles to enhance mobility among residents, prioritizing eco-friendly construction materials and technologies, and integrating energy-saving solutions and smart home technologies into building designs.

The plan will be executed in phases, with specific actions laid out in three-year “road maps” to be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers. This structured approach aims to ensure a meticulous and sustainable development process for Asman, setting a precedent for future urban planning in Kyrgyzstan and potentially other regions.
