Large Quantity of Medicines Seized in Potato Cargo Smuggling Attempt

Baku: An attempt to smuggle a large quantity of medicinal products into the country was thwarted by the State Customs Committee’s Main Operational and Investigative Department, thanks to advanced risk analyses, digital targeting algorithms, and real-time monitoring systems. The operation, reported by APA-Economics, cited the State Customs Committee as the source of this significant interception.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the Target Center’s analytical platform identified a vehicle transporting a ‘potato’ load from the Republic of Trkiye to Azerbaijan that deviated from its route. Discrepancies in the cargo information prompted authorities to place the vehicle under control at the ‘Girmizi Korpu’ customs post, managed by the Tovuz Customs Department.

Coordinated actions led to the determination of the vehicle’s location, and an initial inspection revealed illegal interference with the cargo space. The mobile team conducting customs control measures discovered cardboard boxes concealed within the ‘potato’ load. These boxes contained 22,000 units of 90 different types of medicinal products, which smugglers had attempted to unload from the vehicle.

An investigation into this incident is currently underway to uncover further details surrounding the smuggling attempt.
