Baku: The leaders of women’s organizations from the Black Sea and South Caucasus region have issued a peace appeal to the international community. According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the appeal is supported by 35 organizations from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Trkiye, Bulgaria, and other countries. It emphasizes a united commitment to peace, justice, and the protection of human dignity, particularly for women and children who often bear the brunt of conflict.

The appeal highlights the ongoing geopolitical challenges and wars in the region, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which has resulted in over half a million civilian and military deaths according to UN data. The leaders stress the importance of global solidarity in providing humanitarian aid, psychological support, and legal protection for conflict survivors, emphasizing that peace in one country is crucial for global stability.

The statement also expresses concern over the rapid militarization in the region, calling for
a shift in investment from military spending to education, healthcare, and sustainable development. The leaders recognize the essential role of women in peacebuilding and urge for their meaningful participation in inclusive and just peace processes.

The appeal also underscores support for the sovereignty of Azerbaijan and the dialogue between Baku and Yerevan, as well as backing Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova in their efforts to restore territorial integrity and stability. The leaders call for prioritizing disarmament and diplomacy over militarization, respecting state sovereignty, and fostering regional cooperation and dialogue.

Finally, the appeal urges the international community to support and empower women’s organizations across the region in all stages of the peacebuilding process, including prevention, participation, protection, relief, and recovery.
