Legendary Tenor Pl¡cido Domingo Enchants Audience at Heydar Aliyev Center

Baku: The legendary Spanish tenor Pl¡cido Domingo performed at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku on November 14. The event was attended by Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, highlighting the significance of the concert in the region.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the concert was a harmonious cultural exchange, featuring not only the maestro Pl¡cido Domingo but also his son, Pl¡cido Domingo Jr. The audience was also treated to performances by esteemed Azerbaijani People’s Artist Yusif Eyvazov, Honored Artist Afag Abbasova, and Swiss opera singer Daria Rybak. The event was further elevated by the presence of the Uzeyir Hajibeyli State Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of renowned Italian conductor Francesco Ivan Ciampa. Their program included timeless compositions by global classical masters such as C. Puccini, C. Verdi, and P. Mascagni.

A special highlight of the evening was Pl¡cido Domingo’s surprise performance of the Azerbaijani folk song ‘Kuchelere su sepmishem’ (I sprinkled water on the streets), joined by the other performers. This marked another tribute by Domingo to Azerbaijani culture, following his 2010 performance of Tofig Guliyev’s song ‘Sene de qalmaz’ (It will be not left to you) during the 87th birth anniversary ceremony of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
