Kyiv: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the large-scale missile and drone strikes by the Russian Federation on several Ukrainian regions. The attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of at least six people in Kyiv and two in Chornomorsk, causing numerous injuries among civilians and significant damage to residential and energy infrastructure. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, Guterres highlighted the damage inflicted on the embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Kyiv.
According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the UN Secretary-General emphasized that attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure are violations of international humanitarian law and are unacceptable in any context. Guterres called for the immediate cessation of such attacks and underscored the principle of the inviolability of diplomatic premises.
The Secretary-General also reiterated his demand for a full, immediate, and unconditional ceasefire. He stressed that this is a crucial first step towards achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace in Ukraine, which respects Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, in accordance with the UN Charter, international law, and relevant UN resolutions.
