“The Azerbaijan-Iran state border is known as the border of friendship and cooperation. The experience of mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijani and Iranian border guards is of exemplary nature,” said Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, as she responded to the following question: “The Border Guard of Iran have circulated a statement today on the identification and arrest of a terrorist group in the territory of Khudafarin district on the border. Taking into account the fact that Khudafarin district borders on Azerbaijan, do you have any comment on this?”

Leyla Abdullayeva noted further that occasional border violations and cases of smuggling are resolved through direct contacts between local military commanders. “Today’s statement of the Iranian Border Guard has nothing to do with the Azerbaijan-Iran state border,” she noted.
