Leyla Aliyeva Honored by WHO for Climate and Health Efforts

Baku: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and head of the IDEA Public Union, recently met with Robb Butler, Special Representative on Climate and Health of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, during the meeting, Aliyeva received a special award from WHO in recognition of her contributions to climate and health initiatives, particularly her involvement in COP29 and support for the WHO Pan-European Commission on Climate and Health. The discussion also included a briefing on IDEA Public Union’s projects aimed at reducing the adverse effects of climate change.

The dialogue covered potential collaboration opportunities between WHO and Azerbaijan, focusing on the environmental and human health implications of the Caspian Sea level decline. Both parties explored possibilities for joint initiatives and reinforcing international appeals, including the prospect of Azerbaijan joining the WHO Healthy Cities Network.

Additionally, the conversation highlighted the importance of clean air for human health, strategies to curb air pollution, and increasing awareness activities in this area.
