LERIK: Leyla Aliyeva, Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, visited Lerik to meet with the family of the late shepherd Khanish Shahiyev, a close friend of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The meeting underscored the enduring legacy of Shahiyev’s connection with the Aliyev family and commemorated the sacrifices made by his descendants in service to their country.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, during the visit, Aliyeva and the Shahiyev family members shared memories of the profound friendship between Heydar Aliyev and Khanish Shahiyev. The discussion highlighted not only their personal bond but also President Ilham Aliyev’s subsequent interactions with the shepherd, reflecting the ongoing relationship between the two families.

In a poignant moment, the gathering honored the Shahiyev family members who have died in military service. Elgun Shahiyev and Altay Shahiyev, grandsons of Khanish Shahiyev, lost their lives in the Patriotic War. Additionally, Khanish’s uncles, Jamal and Huseyn, were
martyred during the First Karabakh War, marking a legacy of sacrifice and patriotism within the family.
