BAKU: The Garadagh solar photovoltaic plant in Azerbaijan has generated 458.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity since its inauguration, marking a significant milestone in the country’s renewable energy efforts. The plant, which officially opened on October 26 last year, stands as a key contributor to Azerbaijan’s green energy initiatives.

According to Trend News Agency, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan highlighted the plant’s role in producing environmentally friendly electricity, which aids in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The facility, with a total capacity of 230 megawatts, is the largest solar power plant in the Caspian and CIS regions, and it represents the first industrial-scale solar power project in Azerbaijan funded through foreign investment.

Constructed by Masdar from the United Arab Emirates, the Garadagh plant required an investment of $262 million. It is expected to produce 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, resulting in a savings of 110 million cubic meters of na
tural gas and a reduction of carbon emissions by 200,000 tons. Spanning an area of 550 hectares, the plant features 570,000 solar panels and is connected to the national grid via a 330-kilovolt substation.
