Baku: On March 16, a media tour was organized to the facilities of 'Tamiz Shahar' OJSC within the framework of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), APA reports. The purpose of the tour was to acquaint media representatives with the modern approaches applied in waste management in Baku, including recycling processes and sustainable urban management practices.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Orkhan Jabbarov, Head of the Public Relations Department of 'Tamiz Shahar' OJSC, emphasized the importance of waste management in forming sustainable cities, which is a key focus of the WUF13 event. He highlighted the significant efforts made in recycling plastic waste, noting that over the past five years, 3,500 tons of plastic bottles have been sorted and sent for recycling.
As part of the information tour, participants visited the Solid Waste Sorting Plant of 'Tamiz Shahar' OJSC to observe the waste sorting process and view a display of valuable items found among the waste. The tour also included a visit to the Balakhani Industrial Park and the Baku Waste-to-Energy Plant, where participants learned about the recycling process and the production of electricity through waste incineration.
It was noted during the tour that the Balakhani Industrial Park in Baku has become a significant center for waste recycling and eco-friendly production since its inception in 2017. The park has registered 28 residents and has seen a total state investment of AZN 57 million. Since 2017, products worth approximately AZN 416 million have been produced through recycling at the park, with AZN 32 million worth of products exported to foreign countries.
