Baku: "Since the end of the 2020 war, 419 Azerbaijanis have become the landmine victims, among them 72 been killed and 347 severely injured," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan said in a social media post regarding the mine incident that occurred in Khojavend the other day, APA reports.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Azerbaijan is committed to demining to ensure a safe and sustainable return of its citizens to their liberated lands, and expects mobilised efforts of international partners to extend support to that end. Landmines continue to pose a serious threat to civilian lives and impede the safe return of former IDPs as well as ongoing reconstruction efforts, the Azerbaijan MFA noted.
Note that yesterday a mine incident occurred in the territory of the village of Ashaghi Veysalli in the Khojavend district, which is liberated from occupation. As a result, Ramiz Mashallah oglu Hajiyev, a resident of the Aghdam district, born in 1968, was killed after stepping on an anti-tank mine with his horse while grazing livestock in an area along the former line of contact that had not yet been cleared of mines.
