Mine Explosion in Kalbajar Results in Serious Injury for Elderly Man

Baku: A 73-year-old man was hospitalized following a mine explosion in the Sariyel village of the Kalbajar district, according to an inquiry by APA. The incident, which occurred in a previously mined area, resulted in the amputation of the man's right ankle. He is currently receiving medical care at the Abbas Sahhat Hospital under the Ganja City United Hospital, where his condition is described as moderately serious.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the victim has been identified as Kamran Shukur oglu Suleymanov, a resident of Gaynag village in the Tartar district. Suleymanov was injured while grazing livestock in an area that had not been cleared of mines. The explosion highlights the ongoing danger posed by uncleared mines in the liberated regions.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Prosecutor General's Office, and ANAMA have released a joint statement concerning the incident. An investigation is currently being conducted by the Kalbajar District Prosecutor's Office. The authorities have reiterated their call for citizens to adhere strictly to safety protocols, remain vigilant around mine warning signs, refrain from touching suspicious objects, and avoid unauthorized areas, especially those where clearance activities are being conducted.
