Baku: Azerbaijan’s Minister of Energy, Parviz Shahbazov, outlined plans to significantly boost the region’s green energy production during the 2nd Baku Climate Action Week. He announced that by 2030, Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur will have a generation capacity of 1.6 gigawatts through a combination of hydro, solar, wind power plants, and rooftop panels.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Shahbazov highlighted that these projects will enable the region to produce twice as much green electricity as it currently consumes, contributing to a reduction of over 2 million tons of emissions. The initiative aims to develop these areas as a ‘Green Energy Zone,’ which plays a crucial role in supporting climate action.

The minister also emphasized that measures are being taken to implement a similar model in Nakhcivan, which possesses a renewable energy potential ranging from 5 to 7 gigawatts. This effort is part of Azerbaijan’s broader energy transition strategy, which seeks to incorporate all components of sustainable energy solutions.
