Baku: A new electricity connection is planned to be established between Azerbaijan and Trkiye via the Zangezur Corridor, Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov announced during his speech at the 5th Azerbaijan-Trkiye Energy Forum, APA-Economics reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the minister emphasized that advancements in digitalization, artificial intelligence, the development of data centers, and the expansion of electrification are setting new standards for energy systems. This evolution necessitates not only the development of new generation capacities but also the strengthening of grids, the implementation of energy storage systems, and the establishment of new electricity connections between countries.

The minister further elaborated on the plan to expand the energy connections that Azerbaijan and Trkiye have fostered between East and West through oil and gas projects by incorporating electricity and green energy corridors. The overarching goal is to transmit the 'green energy' originating from the Caspian and Central Asia to Europe through the collaborative efforts of Azerbaijan and Trkiye.

Parviz Shahbazov highlighted that connecting Nakhchivan to Azerbaijan's unified electricity system via the Zangezur Corridor is integral to this strategy. He mentioned that energy infrastructure has already been established in Jabrayil with this aim in mind. The next phase involves setting up an electricity connection with Nakhchivan and Trkiye through the Zangezur Corridor, which will result in a new electricity line between Azerbaijan and Trkiye.

He concluded by noting that the project will also facilitate the interconnection of the energy systems of the Turkic states situated on both shores of the Caspian Sea.
