Baku: The Ministry of Health of Azerbaijan has issued a warning regarding the use of antibiotics in the treatment of the monkeypox virus, stating that it could negatively impact the treatment process and potentially worsen the disease. This announcement was made by Zakir Guliyev, a specialist expert of the Ministry of Health, during a live show, as reported by APA.
According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Guliyev emphasized that monkeypox is a viral illness, whereas antibiotics are designed to combat bacterial infections. As a result, antibiotics are not recommended for treating monkeypox. In fact, using antibiotics could have detrimental effects on the treatment process. However, in cases where a secondary bacterial infection is present, antibiotics may be used, but only with a doctor’s recommendation.
Guliyev also explained the diagnostic process for monkeypox, which involves analyzing a sample obtained from the wound site or rashes through a PSR test.
