Nakhchivan: President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the unveiling ceremony of a monument dedicated to architect Ajami Nakhchivani at the 'Ajami Seyrangahi' recreation complex in Nakhchivan city on August 11. The event marked a significant milestone in commemorating the 900th anniversary of the birth of Nakhchivani, a distinguished figure in Azerbaijani architecture and the founder of the Nakhchivan architectural school.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, People's Artist Salkhab Mammadov, one of the creators of the monument, provided insights about the statue to President Aliyev and the First Lady. The initiative to honor Ajami Nakhchivani was backed by an Order signed by President Ilham Aliyev last year, which included various measures for celebrating the architect's 900th anniversary, such as the erection of this monument.

The monument complex is designed to reflect Nakhchivani's rich architectural legacy through a modern lens. It was crafted by People's Artists Salkhab Mammadov and Ali Ibadullayev, in collaboration with Heydar Ahmadov, Chairman of the Union of Architects of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Standing at a total height of 385 centimeters, the statue itself is 270 centimeters high and made of bronze, while the granite pedestal measures 90 centimeters. The grounds of the complex have also been enhanced with landscaping and green spaces.

The monument serves as a testament to the Azerbaijani state's dedication to preserving the legacy of its historical figures, particularly Ajami Nakhchivani, who played a crucial role in the evolution of medieval Azerbaijani architecture. This project is part of broader efforts to ensure that the achievements of such figures are passed down to future generations.

Previously, in 1976, the 850th anniversary of Ajami Nakhchivani was celebrated in Azerbaijan under the guidance of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The recognition of his 900th anniversary by UNESCO further emphasizes the importance of promoting Azerbaijan's rich cultural heritage on an international platform.
