Moroccan Expert Highlights Success of Tramway Networks in Accessible Transport

Morocco: Morocco has placed sustainability and territorial equality at the center of its vision, particularly through its new development model and advanced regionalization reforms. APA reports that Fatna Chihab, Secretary General of the National Housing Council under Morocco's Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy, shared these insights during the event titled 'Our Joint Efforts for the Next 10 Years on the New Urban Agenda (NUA)' at the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Fatna Chihab emphasized a significant shift in Morocco's housing policy, highlighting the direct financial assistance program that replaced indirect support to construction companies. This initiative has benefited over 100,000 families in just two years, with 46% of the beneficiaries being women.

Chihab also underscored Morocco's progress in managing rural-urban continuity through urban planning documents covering 3,800 rural settlements. Furthermore, she noted the expansion of tramway networks and the introduction of high-service-level buses as key developments in Morocco's commitment to sustainable and accessible transportation, aligning with the country's goals for decarbonized mobility.
