Morocco Appoints Mohamed Ouahbi as New Head Coach

Rabat: Mohamed Ouahbi was named head coach of Morocco on Thursday, replacing Walid Regragui, who has left the role less than 100 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, the Moroccan Football Federation announced the decision during a ceremony held Thursday night, where federation president Fouzi Lekjaa paid tribute to the departing coach. Ouahbi, who led Morocco to the FIFA U-20 World Cup title last year in Chile, will be assisted by Portugal's Joao Sacramento.

"It's not simply a change. Our objective is to ensure the continuous development of Moroccan football through a structured roadmap," said Lekjaa. The appointment of Ouahbi is seen as a strategic move to build on Morocco's recent successes and ensure that the national team remains competitive on the global stage.
