Moscow and Yerevan Set to Discuss Restoration of Key Railway Lines

Moscow: Moscow and Yerevan will begin negotiations on restoring railway lines that provide Armenia with access to the borders of Trkiye and Azerbaijan, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, this will ensure the Russian Federation's access to ports in the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf, and the Indian Ocean.

Overchuk noted that Moscow and Yerevan will assess the technical and financial conditions for restoring the railway section connecting Armenia with Trkiye and Azerbaijan. The Russian Deputy Prime Minister added that the decision was made following an appeal from the Armenian side: 'The total length of the railway sections near Yerasx and Akhuryan is 1.6 km and 12.4 km, respectively. The negotiations will determine the technical, financial, and other methods for implementing this project. The restoration of the railway sections will provide Russia with access to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Mediterranean ports via Trkiye, and ports of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean via Iran.'
