Moscow: The 21st International Muslim Forum, themed ‘Peace and Trust in an Era of Deglobalization: An Islamic Perspective on Global Challenges,’ convened in Moscow, gathering senior religious figures, diplomats, and officials from Islamic nations. The forum aimed to address the pressing issues of peace and trust amid global changes.

According to Azerbaijan State News Agency, Azerbaijan was represented by Rafael Huseynov, Deputy Speaker of the Milli Majlis, at the event. Mufti Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, Secretary General of the forum and Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims of the Russian Federation, inaugurated the meeting with a strong condemnation of the recent terror attack in Australia. He also noted that the forum coincided with significant commemorative milestones, such as the 1,500th anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and the 1200th anniversary of Imam al-Tirmidhi.

In his address, Rafael Huseynov underscored the restoration efforts of mosques in Azerbaijan’s territories that were liberated from occupation. Highlighting the progressive nature of Islamic religious principles, he pointed out their benefits for both present and future contexts. Huseynov remarked, “Azerbaijan has successfully liberated its territories that have been under occupation for over three decades. Unfortunately, more than 400 religious monuments, mosques, and sacred sites were destroyed in those territories. Azerbaijan is currently restoring these facilities within the framework of the Great Return Program. Consequently, prayers are now being heard from those mosques and places of worship.”

The forum’s moderator, Deputy Supreme Mufti of Russia Damir Mukhetdinov, acknowledged December 12 as the day of remembrance for Heydar Aliyev, the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, and emphasized the respect and reverence with which his memory is held. The forum proceeded with a series of panel discussions, continuing the dialogue on these critical global challenges.
