Murat Kurum Aims to Elevate COP31 Inspired by Azerbaijan’s Successes

Ankara: 'We want to elevate this process to a higher level as Trkiye, taking into account the successful outcomes achieved in Azerbaijan and the COP30 process held in Brazil,' Trkiye's Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and COP31 President-designate Murat Kurum told journalists.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Kurum emphasized the importance of implementation and concrete action at the upcoming COP31. He detailed plans for a multifaceted presidency process, aiming to ensure inclusivity and representation. The presidency will prioritize energy security through comprehensive energy policies and will be conducted in partnership with Australia. Kurum also outlined an action agenda focused on youth participation, climate-resilient city development, renewable energy maximization, and equitable climate finance access.

Kurum further mentioned a meeting with the head of the International Energy Agency, emphasizing the collaborative spirit intended for COP31. The minister stressed the need for integrated efforts to address global climate challenges, underscoring the significance of partnerships and inclusive dialogue in achieving sustainable outcomes.
