Panel Discussion at 13th Baku Global Forum Highlights Challenges of Keeping COP Initiatives Alive

Baku: A panel discussion titled 'Beyond Negotiations: The Fight to Keep COP Alive' was held within the framework of the 13th Baku Global Forum, APA reports. The discussion focused on the significance of COP conferences, the global fight against climate change, climate finance, and opportunities for international collaboration.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Trkiye's Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, and COP31 President-designate Murat Kurum emphasized the need for actionable steps in implementing COP31 decisions. He highlighted that the upcoming conference would prioritize turning discussions into tangible actions.

COP29 President Mukhtar Babayev pointed out the challenges related to climate finance and the execution of COP resolutions. He expressed concern over some nations retracting their climate commitments, shifting their investments towards defense and security sectors instead.

Other panelists, including Salaheddine Mezouar, Michal Kurtyka, Sameh Shoukry, Petar Stoyanov, and Hafsat Abiola, offered insights into climate policy, global cooperation, and the disparities between developed and developing nations in addressing climate issues.
