New Law on Seed Production Implemented to Enhance Agricultural Practices

Baku: The new Law "On Seed Production" has officially come into force, as reported by APA. President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to facilitate the implementation of this comprehensive legislation, which is composed of six chapters and 27 articles.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, the law mandates the establishment of an information system, referred to as the Registry, by the designated body within the field of plant breeding and seed production. This Registry will compile data on breeding achievements, registered seed operators, and agreements related to the use of breeding innovations and seed crops. The digitalization of this information will enable stakeholders to access comprehensive details about seeds, including certificates validating their varietal and sowing quality, as well as their biological and economic characteristics.

Under the provisions of the new seed production legislation, 50 percent of the fines collected for violations of the legal requirements on seed production will be allocated to the account of the designated body. This financial resource aims to bolster the social protection of its employees and enhance its material and technical capabilities. The procedure for managing these funds will be determined by the designated authority.

With the enactment of this new legislation, the previous Law No. 257-IQ "On Seed Production," which was in place since March 11, 1997, has been repealed.
