Baku: The Agency for State Support to NGOs of the Republic of Azerbaijan has announced a significant allocation of USD 13 million to over 1,000 projects of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) representing the Global South. This was revealed by Aygun Aliyeva, the Executive Director of the State Agency, during the founding conference of the Global South Platform in Baku.

According to Azeri-Press News Agency, Aygun Aliyeva emphasized the agency’s commitment to continuing its support for these organizations. She highlighted the pressing issues faced by the Global South, such as poverty and the remnants of colonial policies. Aliyeva pointed out that the concept of the Global South extends beyond geography, encompassing political and social networks as well.

Aliyeva mentioned that Azerbaijan’s involvement in COP29 events also underscored its dedication to supporting Global South countries. The Baku Process, which includes representatives from approximately 10,000 NGOs, reflects the growing interest and collaboration between Azerbaijani NGOs and those from the Global South.

The ongoing sessions in Baku are expected to further the development of these organizations. Aliyeva reassured the attendees of the conference, stating, “We want you to feel at home here. Although we speak different languages, we are all united by the language of solidarity.”
